Heads and Masks

The Heads and Masks are some of my favorite pieces.  The heads are difficult to make, and the masks are relatively simple, which makes the balance between the two very satisfying.

The head form is exciting for me because I feel it represents something primal, a part of us that we will never really know. I like the benign or slightly bemused expression on most of my heads, as an effort to bring a sense of calm to wherever they are.

The  masks grow from a similar idea, but take on a more decorative essence.  The masks are also a more intensely expressive piece, since as humans we are very aware of facial expressions and subtle shifts.  I enjoy having most of the masks be a peaceful presence, but occasionally making a more aggressive expression fits what I am looking for.
